To replace the shower cartridge, you must remove the shower handle and trim plate (cover). The shower valve cartridge is usually easy to access, and you should be able to leave the exterior valve assembly in place as long as it's not rusted and in good shape. With the replacement part in hand, this fix shouldn't take much longer than an hour.Jul 18, 2023 · Keep turning until the screw becomes loose enough to remove by hand or with a pair of pliers. Set the screw aside in a safe place, as you’ll need it later for reassembly. After removing the set screw, you should be able to easily slide the handle off the valve cartridge. If the handle feels stuck, wiggle it gently while pulling to loosen it.Locate the set screws on the back of the handle. 3. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen the set screws. 4. Pry the handle off of the faucet body. 5. Remove the old cartridge from the faucet body. 6. Install the new cartridge in the faucet body.
