Toyota rav4 won't start
Aug 12, 2022 · No dash lights, no crank, no start. 2009 seems to have no power to fuse panel, checked all fuses and relays...all good. Only thing that comes on is an oil light and flashers. No instrument cluster lights, no crank, no start. Battery was bad took old battery out and hooked up a brand new battery that I had via jumper cables to car battery ... Won't start, blinking dash, brake locked. I just bought a 2005 Rav4 yesterday, so you can imagine my dread when this morning I go out to start it and I get complete silence. When I'd go to start the car, all of the dash lights would begin to blink accompanied by a slow ticking sound. No crank from the engine whatsoever.

I have been experiencing that same problem with my 2009 "certified" used Toyota Rav4. An easy ignition test is to take a spark plug, old one will do, plug it in and lay it on the valve cover. Should make a solid blue spark when cranking. If you get spark it could be your timing belt. When try to start i can hear clicking sound but it won't start or crank. Starter good. The only way i can start it is when i jump the starter relay it will start. Brake pedal is hard to push down. when I click on the start button, I can hear clicking sound and lights start to blink and the sound system seems to restart with the clock getting reset. Whatever comes on first is what drained the battery. Main fuse failed or is blown. Garage or shop needed for repair.2009 Rav4, 137,XXX miles, base model 4 cylinder. This is an intermittent issue, and no signs point to a specific cause, although it usually happens at the end of wife's workday. Car will crank fine, (newer battery) but won't fire/start. If you have a multi meter, you can cheek the voltage of the start battery, which is in the rear panel on the passenger's side. It should be in the 12 to 12.5 volt range if the car has been siting for a few hours. Then start the car and after a few minutes the voltage should 14.6 to 14.8 volts.It is possible that disconnecting the 12v battery, waiting a couple of minutes, then reconnecting will reset the system. Engine could have been flooded from a stuck injector. Starting made it run rough then quit. Smell of gasoline in exhaust. Or, could be failing coils due to wide spark plug gaps. Or, a bad connection with the crankshaft position sensor. Or, cam crank correlation is off.

That seemed to take care of the problem. Ran fine with the battery disconnected.If that light is flashing, the RAV will crank but not start. There is a chip inside the key that should make that Security light go out when the key is inserted. The chip in the key must be programmed to the car.
