Nov 2, 2017 · 2006 TJ Doesn't want to start in the Cold and shows P0340. My 2006 Wrangler TJ needed a new CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor) when I first bought it. Changed it, no problems for a few months. It's been cooler out (down to 34°F). Jeep had a random misfire for a little while, changed plugs, still had code, didn't seem like a big deal. An intermittent crankshaft position sensor can cause a P0344. You could also have an issue with the so called tone wheel being loose or damaged. Techs sometimes put a scope on the sensor and look at the waveforms. If the sensor is not completely flush with the timing cover before tightening it, it may be damaged.I released the key from full crank and it started turning over and starter stayed engaged for a verrryy long time (without actually firing) until I turned the key off.
