Brown to tan is ideal coloration for racing motors but is so lean that the slightest fuel problem will scorch a piston, like simply running out of fuel. Had a similar thing happen and it ended up being a hole in the water jacket. Was a small leak in the top of the cylinder. Would run fine off the hose in the back yard but under load would crumble. The engine has always been a little cold natured (prev owner said same), let it warm up for 4-5 minutes and it has been running great. Jul 2, 2016. #1. My 1999 Mercury 200 Blue water EFI tilt and trim will not trim out when under a load. It seems to work fine as long as the motor is in neutral or not running at all. It do not make any unusual noises and go up and down very smooth. I did check the fluid level and the relief screw and it all looked fine.
