A stuck/Broke button on the shifter knob will do it as well. There is a cable that runs from the ignition switch to the shifter. If it is not all the way in park or the knob button is not all the way out the key will not turn off all the way keeping the key in there.

The steering wheel must be 'locked'. Press the ignition key 'in' and rotate toward you (counter-clockwise). The key should come out.You could get the key stuck half in/half out.
