Saw Cleaver is also an S tier weapon. All the weapons are worth trying out though because Bloodborne manages to make almost all weapons viable. Don't worry too much about upgrade materials because you'll naturally get to a point where you can farm most of them and you'll get quite a lot if you just play and explore as much as possible.The Whirligig is my favorite strength weapon in the game. Be aware that it does have a somewhat slower move set along the lines of a halberd or two-handed axe, but turns most giant beasts into pulp. The untricked mace form offers a fairly swift attack for a strength weapon though. All of the weapons are viable.
