Basically, the newer the trans, the more improvements were made. Vortec Max trucks got the 4l70e, the B4V 2wd Performance Package trucks got the 4l65e. peace.Thanks, but that unfortunately doesn't help exactly. I know about the electronic differences between the 91-93 and 94-up transmissions. I also would have assumed that a chip for a 4L60E won't work right for a 4L80E. In my particular situation I'm looking to replace the 4L80E in a 1999 gas truck with a 4L80E out of a 99 diesel truck.

From factory, the 6 speeds have a higher rear end ratio (lower number). It is my understanding that if you have a 3:42 gear ratio, the 6 speed will act like you have 4:10's.
