But for the 2006 the power steering uses GM Power Steering Fluid (GM Part No. U.S. 89021184, in Canada 89021186).If your fluid is dirty the dirt sticks to the seals (o-rings Etc..) and the pressure moves the seals around a bit letting the dirt between the surfaces thus creating a leak. Flushing the fluid removes the debris. It definitely hasn't removed the need for Dexron III as many non-GM cars still use it. There isn't any reason to use a synthetic ATF in the power steering system. First, it probably doesn't meet the old Dex-III specification. That's not a big deal, as it's likely much better. Simply disconnect the Resevior OUT / Pump IN hose at the Res, cap the hole in Res with tin foil, Insert a small funnel into the hose and pour in new fluid, cranking with the ignition disconnected. Drain the Res and do it like 3X....you will see new fluid fill the Res.ATF for use in their vehicles.
