They had some kinda coating on there that stood up well to course sand and 120psi!

All 2 part products. Clear, epoxy, primer, etc contain isocyanates. Do not spray without a charcoal respirator at a bare minimum. Por-15 is also effectively a 2 part paint as it uses the moisture in air to cure, kind of like superglue. That's why is goes bad so quick after opening.
