I understand I will lose the sub without an external amp and will use front components to keep the tweets. Is there going to be any problems with the ecu when unplugging the amp?The center speaker is now only used for the Nav voice and the Nav no longer mutes the audio signal on the door speakers. The output level of the bose radio is very low b/c it is amped via the amplifier.Try that first. It should resolve the problem. You must have tapped into the inputs to the factory amp instead of the outputs going to the speakers.…

Re: location of factory stereo amplifier. In my 96 dx, the connection for the metra toyota harness was right behind the head unit. In my 97 altrac le with the premium, external amp system, it was at the external amp as shown above I just ran wire extensions for each wire to my new head unit. Otherwise, you will have no sound.P.S. dont get the bypass harness/connector, it wont work. Get the antenna adapter though and connect it to the wire that plugs into the "amp" or "sub" slot from your factory radio, it is your am/fm antenna from the car. There is not a good way to tie in the factory amp IMO. The stock radio only provides a left/right signal and balance to the amp. Rear speakers and sub signal as well as fade are created in the amp.
