For some reason khans guard are good at long range AND the best melee cavalry in the game. They definitely need a nerf. The axes are generally worse, a good twohanded axe is better than a bad twohanded sword, the bonus vs shields will rarely (but not never) help. Though at least the damage-difference will be somewhat less noticable, because either punches through top-tier armour. Nothing beside the 3 I mentioned are counter as 2 handed. It improves based on weapon type and 1 handed spear is a polearm as polearm is 1 or 2 handed.
