no. the cam sensor doesn't need to be replaced. and yes, sometimes the engine will start with that sensor unplugged because the ECM is going into default. Default like the ECM doesn't have to detect the crankshaft sensor to start the engine. it makes up for the lost signal at times. so yes.stopped cranking and starting altogether. was able to jump start it and then subsequently restart it several times. replaced the 6 month old battery anyway and confirmed crank/start. the next day, suddenly won't crank/start again. but, was able to jump start again. no indicators on dash board. all other systems appear to work normally.Generation 7 Malibu, Years 2008 - 2012.
