When I get it, I can still shift into and out of all the settings. 2WD works fine, 4HI works fine, 4LO works fine, and neutral works fine.

I had a remanufactured transmission installed in my 2004 1500, and I now have the infamous Service 4WD message showing shortly after start up. It was not an issue prior to the transmission change. The switch seems to be working.However, the day after I bought it, the "Service 4wd System" message popped up. I took the transfer case out, did the pump rub fix and installed a new (doorman because I couldn't find anything better) shift motor and encoder to put in there. Boom. Problem solved! No more "Service 4wd System" messages and everything worked perfectly!Like any truck, the Chevrolet Silverado has its fair share of known issues in regard to the 4WD system.
